About Me

Adam Mokan

Adam

My name is Adam Mokan and I am the person responsible for this random mess of information.

I’ve always been addicted to reading/learning and new approaches to problems. I am never content to just make a “fix” in life; I’m constantly driven to look “behind the curtain” and solve the problem. The purpose of this blog is to simply make notes of things I’m working on or maybe want to work on, when time permits. I’m absolutely no expert at anything, but have a strong desire to get better at everything I do.

I’m an independent software developer and have been working professionally in the industry since the late 90s. I currently reside in the beautiful east valley of Phoenix, Arizona after relocating from Flint, Michigan in 2005, where I was born. Aside from developing, I enjoy speaking at user group events and training developers.

I started out in development by cutting my teeth on Commodore BASIC/6502 assembler in the 80′s, a bit of C in the mid 90′s (along with some Java), and eventually into Microsoft development by the late 90′s.

Despite an obvious focus on the Microsoft stack of development (it pays the bills), I also work on Apple’s iOS mobile platform and other languages/environments/frameworks from time-to-time like node.js, Ruby, Processing, and Python. I also have over 15 years of experience in audio production and engineering.

I am also the founder of Dead Cactus Labs, which was intended to simply be an outlet for creative mobile applications and electronics. Since May 2011, it is my full-time job and I also offer consulting services for custom development and training across various platforms, system architecture, cloud-based services with both Amazon and Windows Azure, and so-on. During most weekdays, you can find me working out of the awesome Gangplank facility in downtown Chandler, Arizona.

Aside from the nerdy side of me, I have two awesome sons that I spend as much time with as humanly possible.

I’m also known to enjoy a cheap beer, wearing flannel shirts, growing beards, University of Michigan football, and hiking in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix.

The best way to get in touch with me is to reach out to me on Twitter (@adammokan).
